What’s the difference between long investing and long-short investing?

Taking a long position is the same as being bullish, or having a positive view on a company.

Short investing is having a bearish view or having a negative view on a company.

In the Upside app, we allow you to build ideas that are both long or short, and that is to encourage you to start finding companies that you have divergent views on over the medium and long term.

However, as you move through into portfolio builder we will restrict the inclusion of short positions. This is to try and help you prevent losses.

Taking a short position in the real world can incur, theoretically, unlimited losses.
